How did Monarch perform in H1 FY27?
Monarch delivered higher standalone revenue, EBITDA and PAT in H1 FY27, although EBITDA expanded more slowly than revenue. Income from operations rose to Rs 99.36 crore from Rs 71.89 crore in H1 FY26, while EBITDA, excluding other income, increased 27.33% to Rs 26.18 crore from Rs 20.56 crore. The reported margin movements differed between operating profit and net profit. EBITDA margin declined to 26.35% from 28.60%, whereas PAT margin rose to 20.24% from 19.50%. Other income was Rs 1.16 crore in H1 FY27, down from Rs 1.59 crore in H1 FY26, and the presentation specifies that EBITDA excludes other income.
Why did Monarch’s EBITDA margin decline in H1 FY27?
Monarch’s EBITDA margin declined because standalone operating expenditure increased 42.54%, faster than the 38.19% increase in income from operations. Operating expenditure rose to Rs 73.18 crore in H1 FY27 from Rs 51.34 crore in H1 FY26, an increase of Rs 21.84 crore. EBITDA increased by Rs 5.62 crore, but the margin reduced by 225 bps.
Project-related expense was the largest operating cost line, increasing to Rs 41.82 crore from Rs 29.32 crore. Employee cost increased to Rs 22.15 crore from Rs 15.65 crore, while other expenses rose to Rs 9.20 crore from Rs 6.37 crore. These three cost categories together increased by Rs 21.83 crore, broadly matching the Rs 21.84 crore rise in operating expenditure.
The presentation does not provide management commentary assigning the margin change to a particular cost item. Depreciation rose to Rs 3.28 crore from Rs 2.37 crore and interest increased to Rs 1.61 crore from Rs 0.99 crore, while profit before tax still rose by Rs 3.66 crore. The lower tax charge of Rs 2.35 crore supported the increase in PAT margin despite the decline in EBITDA margin.
