How did Tonbo Imaging perform in Q2 FY27?
Tonbo Imaging reported consolidated Q2 FY27 revenue from operations of Rs 183.3 crore, up 1,963% year on year from Rs 8.9 crore in Q2 FY26. Profit after tax, or PAT, turned to Rs 23.5 crore from a Rs 9.6 crore loss in the comparable quarter. The shift followed earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, of Rs 44.2 crore, compared with an EBITDA loss of Rs 3.2 crore a year earlier.
The September-quarter EBITDA margin was 24%, versus negative 36% in Q2 FY26, while profit before tax reached Rs 31.4 crore after a Rs 10.7 crore loss in the prior-year quarter. Revenue was about 20.6 times the Q2 FY26 level, based on the two reported figures. These results cover the quarter ended September 30, 2026, and form part of Tonbo Imaging’s unaudited consolidated release dated November 5, 2026.
Why did Tonbo Imaging’s H1 FY27 profit trail its Q2 result?
Tonbo Imaging’s H1 FY27 PAT was Rs 5.8 crore, lower than its Rs 23.5 crore Q2 PAT because a Rs 13 crore EBITDA loss in Q1 FY27 offset part of the second-quarter recovery. For the six months ended September 30, 2026, PAT nevertheless improved from a Rs 4.2 crore loss in H1 FY26, a reported improvement of Rs 10 crore.
Half-year revenue reached Rs 219.3 crore, up 183% from Rs 77.6 crore in H1 FY26, while EBITDA increased 165% to Rs 31.2 crore from Rs 11.8 crore. However, the H1 EBITDA margin was 14%, down from 15% a year earlier by 96 basis points, or 0.96 percentage points. Tonbo Imaging said the 14% margin reflected the sharp Q2 recovery, with the Q2 EBITDA result more than offsetting the first-quarter loss.
What is in Tonbo Imaging’s order book?
Tonbo Imaging had a confirmed order book of Rs 249.8 crore as of September 30, 2026, and contracts worth a further Rs 408.3 crore under negotiation. The contracts under negotiation are additional to the confirmed order book and were not described as secured orders in the release.
Domestic orders accounted for Rs 182.2 crore, or approximately 73%, of the confirmed book, while export orders represented Rs 67.6 crore. By product category, platform systems made up Rs 205.3 crore and tactical systems Rs 44.5 crore. Platform systems therefore represented 82% of the confirmed order book, despite tactical systems being the larger reported revenue line in the first half.
Management said H1 FY27 was supported by order inflows of Rs 187.9 crore and that the confirmed book, contracts under negotiation and qualified opportunities supported its outlook for FY27 and the medium term. It also said product-based defence businesses should be assessed over three to five years and that quarterly revenue volatility has occurred historically.

Which business lines drove Tonbo Imaging’s H1 FY27 revenue?
Tonbo Imaging reported H1 FY27 platform revenue of Rs 94.1 crore, up from Rs 33.3 crore in H1 FY26, while tactical revenue rose to Rs 122.9 crore from Rs 39.3 crore. Tactical systems therefore generated the larger of the two reported business-line revenue totals for the six-month period, whereas platforms formed the larger part of the Rs 249.8 crore order book.
Tonbo Imaging defines tactical systems as thermal imaging cores, weapon sights, handheld thermal-imaging binoculars and targeting systems. Its platform systems include missile seekers, fire-control systems, stabilised gimbals and missile-guidance systems. As of September 2026, Tonbo Imaging said it had deployed more than 28,000 systems across 24 countries.
Management said tactical systems currently contribute 70% to 80% of the business but expects platforms to take a larger share over time. Tonbo Imaging also reported a lean, fabless production model using multiple ISO 9001-certified contract manufacturing partners, while stating that it owns 100% of its intellectual property across optics, sensor electronics, low-power computer vision, inertial stabilisation, radio frequency and control technologies.
What expansion plans and export conditions should investors watch?
Tonbo Imaging plans to continue investment in a directed-energy system over the next three to four years, with that activity described as a third business line still in development. Management linked the investment to its stated aim of increasing adoption of platform subsystems and directed-energy platforms in domestic and international markets, while noting that outcomes may differ from forward-looking expectations.
In October 2026, Tonbo Imaging secured an approximately EUR 65,000 export order from a European state-owned company for FOPM units of an electro-optical and infrared stabilised seeker. On acceptance, the customer can opt to order up to approximately EUR 13 million more. Supply remains subject to an End User Certificate and Government of India export authorisation, so neither the option nor delivery is assured.
The seeker combines day and thermal imaging, stabilisation and onboard target tracking for loitering munitions, precision-guided munitions and interceptor drones. Tonbo Imaging listed on the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE on October 23, 2026, following an Rs 852 crore initial public offering through an offer for sale that was subscribed more than 135 times overall.
Conclusion
Tonbo Imaging’s Q2 FY27 results marked a reversal from the Q2 FY26 loss: revenue rose 1,963% to Rs 183.3 crore and PAT reached Rs 23.5 crore. The H1 comparison also moved into profit, at Rs 5.8 crore against a Rs 4.2 crore loss, but the Rs 13 crore first-quarter EBITDA loss shows how concentrated the half-year recovery was in Q2.
The next disclosures to watch are progress in converting the Rs 408.3 crore of contracts under negotiation, execution of the Rs 249.8 crore confirmed order book and the conditions on the European seeker order. Management’s three-to-four-year directed-energy development plan, plus customer acceptance and export authorisations for the EUR-denominated programme, remain stated variables in its outlook.
