What drove Voltas' Q2 profit increase?
Voltas' reported profit increase included a substantial rise in other operating income, which reached Rs 139.01 crore in the September 2026 quarter from Rs 32.93 crore in the September 2025 quarter. Total income rose 14% to Rs 2,746.08 crore, while profit before tax increased 53% to Rs 82.93 crore from Rs 54.12 crore.
The Rs 63.04 crore writeback followed the conclusion of litigation over a Qatar project. The Qatar Court of Cassation dismissed the main contractor's appeal on 30 August 2026, upholding the Court of Appeal's 4 May 2026 judgment and resulting in cancellation of bank guarantees that had amounted to Rs 437.99 crore.
Voltas recognised Rs 25 crore of Production Linked Incentive, or PLI, income after receiving approvals effective from 1 April 2025. The filing identifies Rs 15 crore relating to April 2025 to March 2026 and Rs 5 crore relating to April 2026 to June 2026, but does not separately itemise the balance of the recognised Rs 25 crore.
How much of Voltas' operating income came from disclosed items?
The Rs 63.04 crore Qatar writeback and Rs 25 crore PLI income totalled Rs 88.04 crore, equivalent to about 63% of Voltas' Rs 139.01 crore other operating income for the September 2026 quarter. Voltas did not disclose an adjusted profit figure excluding those two items.
The Qatar project originated in a 2010 subcontract entered into jointly with a consortium partner. The ultimate client terminated the related main contract in 2014 owing to delays and execution defects, while the main contractor sought to invoke the group's bank guarantees in June 2023.
Following the final court decision, Voltas assessed provisions and payables related to the project and recorded the writeback in other operating income. This accounting line differs from income from operations, which rose by Rs 253.17 crore year on year to Rs 2,567.56 crore in the September 2026 quarter.
Which Voltas businesses changed most during the quarter?
Voltas' Unitary Cooling Products segment recorded revenue of Rs 1,566.79 crore, up from Rs 1,215.13 crore a year earlier, while its segment result turned to a Rs 19.74 crore profit from a Rs 45.80 crore loss. The filing notes that sales in this segment are seasonal and generally highest in the first quarter.
Electro-Mechanical Projects and Services revenue declined to Rs 816.39 crore from Rs 966.17 crore, and its segment result fell to Rs 74.75 crore from Rs 92.04 crore. The segment-result disclosure refers to the Qatar-project note, linking the reported result to the project-related writeback.
Engineering Products and Services recorded revenue of Rs 185.39 crore, compared with Rs 139.05 crore a year earlier, while segment profit rose to Rs 52.85 crore from Rs 43.92 crore.
