What were BMWIL's H1 FY27 results?

Its income for the half year was more than half of the Rs 680.02 crore reported for the full FY26, though BMWIL gave no FY27 revenue outlook.
EBITDA for H1 FY27 was Rs 93.10 crore, compared with Rs 75.28 crore in H1 FY26, an increase of 23.7%. The EBITDA margin was 25.0%, marginally below 25.1% in the comparable prior-year half. What has BMWIL commissioned at Bokaro?
BMWIL commissioned the first phase of its greenfield downstream steel complex at Bokaro, Jharkhand, with its colour-coating line receiving Consent to Operate (CTO) on October 5, 2026. The CTO followed the September 30 quarter-end and marked BMWIL's entry into the colour-coated steel segment.
The Bokaro complex is intended to broaden BMWIL's product range into galvanised, Galvalume, ZAM and colour-coated products. ZAM is a zinc-aluminium-magnesium coated steel product. The source describes those additions as part of the downstream complex, without providing sales, production or utilisation data for the newly commissioned line.
BMWIL also disclosed envisaged subsequent phases with 550,000 tonnes per annum of Cold Rolled Full Hard capacity and 540,000 tonnes per annum of GA/GI/ZAM capacity. GA refers to galvannealed steel and GI to galvanised iron. These capacities are part of later envisaged phases, rather than capacity reported as operational on October 5, 2026.

How is BMWIL funding the Bokaro expansion?
BMWIL had deployed Rs 516.4 crore towards the Bokaro greenfield expansion as of September 30, 2026. Internal accruals contributed Rs 208.9 crore and debt contributed Rs 307.5 crore. Debt was therefore Rs 98.6 crore higher than the internal-accrual funding disclosed for the project.
About Rs 60 crore was capitalised towards the first phase of the colour-coating line as of October 5, 2026, the same date it received its CTO. The announcement does not disclose the total project cost, debt interest rate, repayment schedule or expected revenue from the line.
BMWIL's established operations include manufacturing and processing hot rolled pickled and oiled coils, cold rolled coils, galvanised plain coils, galvanised corrugated sheets, mild-steel and galvanised-iron pipes, and thermo-mechanically treated rebars. It also has a joint venture with Steel Authority of India Limited at Bokaro, while its manufacturing units are located in West Bengal and Jharkhand.
What is BMWIL's operating focus after Q2 FY27?
BMWIL said management's operating focus is to improve capacity utilisation and ramp up the new Bokaro facilities after the October 5, 2026 commissioning milestone. Chairman Ram Gopal Bansal also said the company would expand proprietary operations and value-added products as part of a balanced business model.
Management said the legacy business maintained operating performance across its three core segments and had headroom for further utilisation improvement. However, the release provides no segment-wise revenue, volume, capacity or profitability figures, so the relative contribution of the three segments to Q2 income of Rs 195.42 crore is not disclosed.
BMWIL's Q2 PAT growth of 42.7% exceeded its 33.0% total-income growth, lifting PAT margin by 0.8 percentage points to 11.1%. In contrast, EBITDA margin declined by 1.6 percentage points to 24.9%. The company did not provide a cost, pricing or other reconciliation for the different margin movements.
Conclusion
BMWIL's Q2 FY27 results showed higher income, EBITDA and PAT, with PAT attributable to owners reaching Rs 21.62 crore and H1 PAT reaching Rs 40.74 crore. The Bokaro CTO on October 5, 2026 added a commissioning milestone after the quarter ended, bringing colour-coated steel into BMWIL's disclosed downstream product portfolio.
The next disclosed focus is ramping up Bokaro and improving capacity utilisation, alongside later envisaged phases of 550,000 tonnes per annum of Cold Rolled Full Hard capacity and 540,000 tonnes per annum of GA/GI/ZAM capacity. Further updates on deployment beyond Rs 516.4 crore, debt funding of Rs 307.5 crore and operating progress at the colour-coating line will indicate execution against that plan.
