How did CL Educate raise EBITDA while income declined?
CL Educate raised EBITDA through lower costs rather than higher income in H1 FY 2027. Consolidated total income fell 4.4% to Rs 305.1 crore from Rs 319.1 crore in H1 FY 2026, while EBITDA increased by Rs 6.6 crore from Rs 50.2 crore to Rs 56.8 crore.
The company identified Rs 20.5 crore of cost optimisation as the driver of this result. Service-delivery costs fell by Rs 8.1 crore and other overheads fell by Rs 12.4 crore. These reductions exceeded the Rs 13.9 crore decline in total income by Rs 6.6 crore, which matches the reported EBITDA increase.
CL Educate's consolidated EBITDA margin rose to 18.6% from 15.7%, a 289-basis-point change. The presentation therefore shows an operating-profit improvement while reported total income was lower, with cost reductions rather than revenue expansion providing the disclosed mechanism.

Digital Assessments recorded an EBITDA margin of 29.2%, up 171 basis points, despite lower revenue and EBITDA. Its Rs 127.6 crore revenue base was affected by the non-repeat of Rs 21 crore of NTA/DGAFMS and CCRAS work from H1 FY 2026, according to the presentation.

Conclusion
CL Educate's H1 FY 2027 earnings improvement came from a Rs 20.5 crore reduction in service-delivery costs and other overheads, which more than offset a Rs 13.9 crore fall in total income. MarTech provided the only disclosed segment revenue increase, while EdTech – Learning & Development lifted EBITDA despite lower revenue and Digital Assessments retained a 29.2% EBITDA margin.
The next period will test whether new contracts and timing effects support income as well as margins.
