How is Data Patterns moving from subsystems to full systems?
Data Patterns is seeking to build complete systems from reusable, internally designed building blocks and intellectual property rather than limiting its role to individual subsystems. Its stated focus covers radar, electronic warfare, communication systems, avionics, satellite and test equipment, with the aim of addressing a larger total addressable market. The company had 1,137 engineers as of September 2026, including 91 people hired in Q2FY27, supporting design, prototype testing, qualification and manufacturing.
In radar, Data Patterns says it has developed building blocks in signal processing, antennas and transmit-receive modules that can be assembled into complete radar systems in India. It exported a transportable precision approach radar to a European country and completed site acceptance testing, while delivering and installing nine precision approach radars for the Ministry of Defence for the Army and Navy. Its identified opportunities include fire-control radars, X-band radars, smaller unmanned aerial vehicle radars, and radio-frequency and infrared missile seekers.
Electronic warfare and communications provide further routes to complete-system contracts. Data Patterns has delivered communications intelligence and electronic intelligence systems, along with self-protection suites, for land, mobile, fighter reconnaissance aircraft and aerostat applications. Its electronic support measures receivers cover 1 megahertz to 40 gigahertz, while truck-mounted and unmanned aerial vehicle-based electronic support and jammer systems are among the potential applications it identifies.
What product investment supports Data Patterns' growth plan?
Data Patterns has invested more than Rs 145 crore in new product development, with these developments at an advanced stage of readiness, according to management. The company says the investment is intended to broaden its product profile and generate additional revenue from larger market opportunities. Its Q2FY27 presentation also states that qualified institutional placement funds were used for research and development in radar, electronic warfare and communication systems.
The product plan is linked to a portfolio with revenue spread across several categories. H1FY27 revenue was Rs 249.3 crore, with avionics the largest segment at 29.0%, followed by electronic warfare at 27.8% and radar at 23.1%. Together, these three segments contributed 79.9% of H1FY27 revenue, compared with 7.7% from annual maintenance contracts and 4.1% from automatic test equipment.
The quarterly split of the Rs 249.3 crore H1FY27 revenue was 46.5% in the first quarter and 53.5% in the second quarter. Q2FY27 revenue was Rs 133.2 crore and EBITDA was Rs 31.4 crore, producing a 23.6% EBITDA margin, while H1FY27 EBITDA margin was 25.2%. Management described Q2FY27 as more normalised after exceptionally strong execution in Q2FY26 and expects H2FY27 to be stronger than H1FY27 as programme milestones advance and deliveries increase.

How will Data Patterns expand capacity and manufacturing?
Data Patterns says it invested around Rs 190 crore in capital expenditure during the past five years and plans an additional Rs 150 crore over the next two years. Management says the planned spending will build infrastructure for future contracts and support in-house technologies and products. It also states that it intends to maintain a net debt-free status while pursuing these investments.
The manufacturing plan includes advanced composite structures for radar and next-generation defence systems. Data Patterns acquired a 100% stake in ST Advanced Composites Pvt. Ltd. for Rs 10 crore, adding advanced composite manufacturing capability. The board approved the transaction in Q1FY27, and the company reported the completed acquisition in Q2FY27.
Management says the acquisition can enable participation in larger integrated radar and defence-system contracts over the medium term. It also says greater in-house manufacturing could improve production planning, quality control, timelines and delivery, while reducing reliance on external vendors. Data Patterns held Rs 405.3 crore of cash, bank and investments as of September 30, 2026.
What are Data Patterns' export and order opportunities?
Data Patterns has exported products to Europe and the United Kingdom, including transportable precision approach radars and search-and-track radars. Its stated next step is to build a marketing organisation for exports. The company also identifies requirements across the Army, Navy and Air Force for electronic warfare and communications products, alongside export potential for complete radar systems developed in-house.
Management disclosed an order pipeline of Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore over the next 24 months. Separately, the reported order book was Rs 1,723.6 crore as of September 30, 2026. The order book represents orders on hand at that date, whereas the pipeline is management's stated range of prospective opportunities rather than reported revenue.
Data Patterns reported revenue compound annual growth of 31% and EBITDA compound annual growth of 30% between FY22 and FY26. Its 20-25% revenue-growth outlook for the next two to three years is below the FY22-FY26 revenue growth rate and is tied to product development, capacity expansion and export execution. Management also cites Make in India procurement, infrastructure development and import bans as factors supporting its operating environment.
Conclusion
Data Patterns is pursuing growth by increasing its role in defence programmes from supplying building blocks to bidding for complete radar, electronic warfare and communication systems. More than Rs 145 crore of product-development investment, around Rs 190 crore of prior capex and the Rs 10 crore composites acquisition are the stated mechanisms behind that strategy, while avionics, electronic warfare and radar supplied 79.9% of H1FY27 revenue.
The next measures will be progress on the Rs 150 crore capex plan, the build-out of export marketing and delivery against programme milestones in H2FY27. Management expects H2FY27 to be stronger than H1FY27, retains its FY27 guidance for 20-25% revenue growth and EBITDA margins of around 35-40%, and has identified a Rs 2,000 crore to Rs 4,000 crore pipeline over the next 24 months.
