Why did Repco Home Finance's profitability ratios move in different directions?
Repco Home Finance's net interest margin and spread improved in Q2FY27, while return on equity declined. Net interest margin rose to 5.5% from 5.4% in Q2FY26 and Q1FY27, while spread increased by 0.3 percentage point to 3.7% from 3.4% in both earlier quarters.
Return on equity, or ROE, fell from 13.5% in Q2FY26 to 12.7% in Q1FY27 and 12.6% in Q2FY27. Return on assets, or ROA, remained at 2.9% in all three reported quarters, so the reported decline in ROE occurred without a change in ROA.

Did Repco Home Finance convert higher income into higher profit?

Repco Home Finance combined a higher Q2FY27 spread of 3.7%, a 5.5% net interest margin and an 8.4% increase in net profit with a higher cost-to-income ratio of 29.7%. The comparison shows that improved revenue and volume measures did not prevent ROE from declining to 12.6% from 13.5% a year earlier.
The presentation does not disclose a separate reason for the rise in the cost-to-income ratio from 26.0% in Q1FY27. The next disclosures will indicate whether employee cost, which reached Rs 39 crore, and other OPEX, which reached Rs 31 crore, remain elevated and whether ROE moves from 12.6%.
