Why did Foods & Inns miss Q2FY27 export dispatches?
Foods & Inns said high export freight and container-availability issues, affected by the continuing war situation, led customers to defer their call-offs in Q2FY27. As a result, about 3,300 metric tonnes (MT) of finished goods worth Rs 32 crore could not be shipped despite confirmed orders. The company said these orders had spilled over into the current quarter, indicating that the affected goods were not described as cancelled orders.
The disruption was concentrated in exports rather than total sales tonnage. Export tonnage declined to 6,418 MT in Q2FY27 from 8,551 MT in Q2FY26, while domestic tonnage increased to 15,176 MT from 12,186 MT. Total tonnage therefore rose to 21,594 MT from 20,737 MT, showing that the domestic increase exceeded the reported decline in export dispatches.
How did delayed shipments affect Foods & Inns revenue and profit?
Foods & Inns reported revenue from operations of Rs 170 crore in Q2FY27, compared with Rs 193 crore in Q2FY26 and Rs 157 crore in Q1FY27. Including Rs 2 crore of other income, total income was Rs 172 crore, down 12% year on year (YoY) but up 8% from Rs 160 crore in the preceding quarter. The company’s sales-performance commentary identifies the unshipped export orders as a significant effect on quarterly dispatches.
Foods & Inns moved to a Rs 5 crore loss after tax in Q2FY27 from a Rs 1 crore profit in Q2FY26 and a Rs 4 crore profit in Q1FY27. Profit before tax was a Rs 7 crore loss, versus a Rs 1 crore profit a year earlier. EBITDA declined to Rs 13 crore from Rs 20 crore YoY, while other operating expenses increased to Rs 59 crore from Rs 49 crore.
Did Foods & Inns margins improve despite the Q2FY27 sales disruption?
Foods & Inns improved its Q2FY27 gross margin to 48.2% from 42.4% in Q2FY26, while gross profit was unchanged at Rs 82 crore. Raw-material costs fell to Rs 88 crore from Rs 111 crore as revenue from operations declined by Rs 23 crore. The presentation specifies that gross profit excludes other income, making the gross-margin comparison based on operating sales and raw-material costs.
Average realisations declined 12% YoY because Foods & Inns sold inventory manufactured during the 2025 crop season at substantially lower raw-material costs. Management described pricing as a pure pass-through of raw-material movements. For H1FY27, gross profit was Rs 169 crore compared with Rs 174 crore in H1FY26, but gross margin increased to 51.5% from 40.5% as total income fell to Rs 332 crore from Rs 433 crore.
The gross-margin gain did not translate into a higher EBITDA margin in the quarter. EBITDA margin was 7.3% in Q2FY27, down from 10.4% in Q2FY26 and 14.3% in Q1FY27. Employee expenses decreased to Rs 13 crore from Rs 15 crore YoY, but other operating expenses rose by Rs 10 crore, while finance cost remained Rs 13 crore in both Q2FY27 and Q2FY26.

Foods & Inns said its spray-dried powders division increased volumes 8% YoY in Q2FY27 and 14% in H1FY27. Management is targeting commercial production from that expansion in January 2027 and expects sales to increase over the next two quarters.
Frozen food recorded about 11% volume growth and about 27% value growth YoY in Q2FY27, which Foods & Inns attributed to improved realisations and a greater contribution from value-added products. The company also said it had started tomato sourcing for production at both its Gujarat and Nashik plants, while describing the tomato crop period as shorter this year. In fruit pulps, Foods & Inns expects processed-guava demand to rise amid water shortages linked to the El Niño effect and said its farmer backward-integration activity supports raw-material sourcing.
Kusum Spices grew 0.7% YoY in Q2FY27, compared with 7.3% growth for H1FY27. Management said business restructuring is expected to help increase overall margin, but it did not disclose a margin target or timetable. Financial assets within current assets were Rs 229 crore, slightly below Rs 233 crore at March 2026.
Borrowings increased in both maturity categories by September 2026. Conclusion
Foods & Inns’ Q2FY27 results show a divergence between shipment-led revenue pressure and gross-margin performance. Confirmed export orders worth Rs 32 crore were held back, while total income fell to Rs 172 crore and the company reported a Rs 5 crore loss after tax. At the same time, domestic tonnage increased and gross margin improved by 5.8 percentage points YoY to 48.2%, helped by lower-cost 2025 crop-season inventory.
The next reported periods will show whether the 3,300 MT of deferred export orders are dispatched and whether the associated sales convert after the stated spillover. Management’s January 2027 commercial-production target for expanded spray-dried capacity, its expectation of higher sales over the next two quarters, and the disclosed increase in inventories to Rs 787 crore are additional operating and balance-sheet developments to watch.
