Will Purple Style Labs avoid operating cash losses in H2 FY27?
Purple Style Labs does not expect operating cash losses in H2 FY27, although management did not provide a quantified second-half or full-year cash-flow forecast. Management said the business typically records a larger share of sales in H2 and expects interest costs to decline as it manages debt more efficiently using equity raised.
The company reported an H1 FY27 operating cash outflow of Rs 13 crore, compared with an outflow of Rs 50 crore in H1 FY26. Free cash flow, or cash flow after capital expenditure, improved to an outflow of Rs 19 crore from an outflow of Rs 72 crore. The cash-flow improvement came despite EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, recording a loss of about Rs 7 crore in H1 FY27 versus a Rs 5 crore loss a year earlier.
Management said interest cost across H1 FY27 was about Rs 40 crore, with the remaining cash deployment relating to operating losses. That distinction matters because management expects a lower financing cash burden in H2, while operating profitability still depends on gross profit and sales throughput.
Why is H2 FY27 important for Purple Style Labs?
H2 FY27 is important because Purple Style Labs historically generates more sales and revenue in the second half, particularly during wedding and festive purchasing. Management cited FY26 revenue from operations of Rs 215 crore in H1 and Rs 343 crore in H2, from Rs 560 crore for the full year.
The same pattern appeared in gross merchandise value, or GMV, which measures the value of goods sold through the platform. Purple Style Labs reported FY26 gross sales of Rs 720 crore, comprising Rs 310 crore in H1 and Rs 411 crore in H2. Management said wedding shopping started later than usual in Q2 FY27 and expects the deferred activity to be reflected in Q3 and Q4.
Mumbai provides a geographical example of the seasonal mix. Mumbai generated GMV of Rs 77 crore in H1 FY26 and Rs 128 crore in H2 FY26, while H1 FY27 GMV reached Rs 105 crore. Management said applying the earlier 40:60 first-half-to-second-half mix would imply more than Rs 250 crore of Mumbai GMV for FY27, but described this as an illustration of the normal cycle rather than formal guidance.
What must Purple Style Labs achieve to become profitable?
Purple Style Labs says it becomes profitable after annual gross profit exceeds cash-based annual expenses of Rs 360 crore to Rs 370 crore. Management said FY27 should aim to get as close as possible to that range and that it hopes to bridge the gap in FY28.
The company’s stated mechanism is operating leverage from a largely fixed cost structure. Management said costs have not changed much across the last six months because there was no new expansion in the cost base. It said additional sales generated by existing stores can increasingly flow from gross profit to EBITDA, though it does not provide a standard store-level EBITDA figure because stores are at different stages of maturity.
Gross profitability improved in H1 FY27. Revenue from operations increased to Rs 262 crore from Rs 214 crore in H1 FY26, while gross profit rose to Rs 103 crore from Rs 83 crore. Gross margin increased to 39% from 38%, and management said it hopes the improvement seen in Q1 and Q2 continues through FY27.

How is working capital affecting Purple Style Labs’ cash position?
Purple Style Labs reduced net working capital to Rs 59 crore in September 2026 from Rs 84 crore in September 2025, even after adding New York and Linking Road, Mumbai stores in March 2026. Inventory fell to Rs 196 crore from Rs 208 crore over the same period.
Management attributed the lower funding need partly to its backorder model. Customers typically pay 100% upfront, deliveries can take from two to 12 weeks, and designers are paid after delivery within a defined period. Customer advances and payables therefore offset a portion of the inventory investment, explaining why management cited net working capital of about Rs 60 crore against inventory of Rs 196 crore.
This timing also separates GMV, cash collection and reported revenue. Management said advances received in Q2 are often delivered in Q3, when they are reflected in revenue. The company’s stated goal is to reduce net working capital further as sales scale, rather than treating the inventory balance alone as the measure of capital deployed.
What growth plan supports Purple Style Labs’ FY28 outlook?
Purple Style Labs is relying mainly on higher throughput from its existing stores, with limited additional expansion, to support its FY28 profitability aim. Management said Mumbai and the US had already been expanded, while its FY30 plan includes one Delhi store, upgrades in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bangalore, and a London store upgrade.
Management estimated total deposits and capital expenditure of about Rs 80 crore to Rs 85 crore across the five projects over roughly 18 months, with the planned Delhi location as the main driver. It said no locations had been signed at the time of the call and that the projects remained under evaluation through March 2028.
International sales are part of the throughput plan. US GMV increased to Rs 64 crore in H1 FY27 from Rs 42 crore in H1 FY26, which management attributed to the New York store. Management does not split US store and online sales because it views the geography as an omnichannel business, with the physical store affecting how customers purchase.
Conclusion
Purple Style Labs’ FY28 profitability expectation depends on a disclosed sequence: sustain higher gross margins, increase throughput from a largely fixed cost base, contain working-capital requirements and lower interest costs. H1 FY27 showed revenue up Rs 48 crore, gross profit up Rs 20 crore and operating cash outflow narrowed by Rs 37 crore, although EBITDA loss widened by Rs 2 crore.
The next test is H2 FY27, when management expects seasonal wedding demand and Q2 customer advances delivered in Q3 to support revenue and cash flow. Investors can also watch for updates on the five proposed projects through March 2028 and management’s planned assessment of the New York store after June 2027.
