Which five store projects is Purple Style Labs exploring?
Purple Style Labs is exploring a Delhi flagship, large-format stores in Ahmedabad, Kolkata and Bengaluru, and an upgrade to its London store. Management described the Delhi location as a planned 100,000-square-foot project and said it was the major driver of the collective investment estimate for all five locations.
None of the five properties had been signed at the time of the H1 FY27 call. Management said it was examining locations and finalising terms where it found suitable properties, and would update investors on regular quarterly calls over the next six quarters as agreements were signed.
Purple Style Labs said it normally runs one store in a city, except in Mumbai and Delhi, which makes site selection important for the proposed projects. Management described these city opportunities as part of a three-to-five-year planning process and said it takes time to narrow down the right property rather than commit to a fixed opening date.
How much will Purple Style Labs spend on the projects?
Purple Style Labs estimates that the five projects will require ₹80 crore to ₹90 crore of combined security deposits and capital expenditure. Management later used a narrower ₹80 crore to ₹85 crore range, while clarifying that the amount is a collective estimate for all five locations rather than a store-by-store budget.
The proposed outlay compares with about ₹150 crore already deployed in deposits and capital expenditure across the current store portfolio. Management said the new-project estimate includes deposits as well as fit-out spending, so it does not represent capital expenditure alone and cannot be used to infer the construction cost of any individual store.
Delhi is expected to account for the largest share because the planned flagship would cover 100,000 square feet. By contrast, management said it was not pursuing a very large London store, and that the timing there would depend on available properties and rent, with no separate London budget disclosed.
How do the projects fit Purple Style Labs' FY30 GMV target?
Purple Style Labs links the store plan to its FY30 gross merchandise value, or GMV, target of ₹2,100 crore. Management retained that GMV target but declined to give quarterly guidance, saying its focus is on generating maximum throughput from stores once they are opened rather than forecasting quarterly outcomes.
The programme is therefore not five identical openings. The 100,000-square-foot Delhi flagship is the main expansion component, while Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru and London depend on location and rent negotiations. Management said the projects were expected to happen over 18 months until March 2028, although that timeframe remains subject to property opportunities.
Management used Mumbai's seasonal sales pattern to explain why it evaluates geographic throughput over short-term store metrics. It said Mumbai generated ₹77 crore in H1 and ₹128 crore in H2 of the cited prior year, out of ₹205 crore for the full year, while it expected more than ₹250 crore for Mumbai in the current full year if a similar seasonal pattern held.
International expansion is also part of the FY30 framework. Management said the US business could target ₹270 crore by FY30 from wherever it ends FY27, citing potential FY27 outcomes of ₹40 crore, ₹150 crore or ₹160 crore only as illustrative possibilities rather than formal guidance.

What could delay or change Purple Style Labs' store plan?
The main uncertainty is execution because Purple Style Labs had signed no leases for the five projects in H1 FY27. The final size, opening order, rent and deposit requirement can change as negotiations progress, especially because management said it was still exploring locations and terms for every project.
Current lease costs show why future rental commitments matter. Management estimated annual cash rent for the existing footprint at about ₹150 crore, including approximately ₹30 crore of US rent paid upfront through June 2027; it said average contractual rent escalation is generally around 5% a year, although individual leases can follow different structures.
The New York store illustrates management's approach to a new market. Purple Style Labs used a short lease because New York was a new geography and said it expected to decide how to proceed after June 2027, with an answer planned for the Q3 call; store average order value was above $1,500, compared with about $500 online.
The financial backdrop includes inventory and profitability targets rather than a disclosed funding plan for the five projects. Management reported ₹196 crore of inventory and ₹60 crore of net working capital in September, aided by backorders where customers typically pay 100% upfront, and said annual cash expenses were about ₹360 crore to ₹370 crore, with profitability expected once gross profit exceeds that range.
Conclusion
Purple Style Labs has outlined a sizeable but preliminary physical expansion programme, with ₹80 crore to ₹90 crore earmarked for deposits and capital expenditure across five projects. Delhi is the central project because of its planned 100,000-square-foot scale, while the other four locations support the company’s broader ₹2,100 crore FY30 GMV plan without having individual budgets or opening dates disclosed.
The next indicators are lease-signing updates over the six quarterly calls management identified and whether the 18-month plan through March 2028 remains achievable. Investors can also watch the planned Q3 update on New York after June 2027, as well as management’s stated aim to move closer to its ₹360 crore to ₹370 crore gross-profit threshold in FY27 and bridge the gap in FY28.
