When will Qualiance's new plant begin commercial operations?
Qualiance targets Q1 FY28 for commercial operations at its Pongupalayam, Avinashi facility in Tiruppur district, Tamil Nadu. On November 2, 2026, management said land acquisition and land-use conversion approvals were complete, excavation had finished and civil construction was under way. The building is expected to be completed by February 2027, followed by machinery installation in March 2027.
Trial runs and certifications are planned after the March 2027 installation. Management said the project was among the objectives disclosed during Qualiance's September 2026 listing on the NSE SME platform. The new site is planned to have about 600 machines, solar power, rainwater harvesting and energy-efficient lighting.
The facility is intended to support larger institutional programmes, domestic premium customers and international brands. Qualiance said its Swiss government and defence programmes generally run for five to nine years after public-tender selection, while new capacity is also intended for outdoor, performance and workwear customers in Europe and North America.
How much garment capacity will Qualiance add?
Qualiance plans to add about 10.8 lakh garments of annual capacity, increasing total installed capacity to about 15.3 lakh pieces from 4.5 lakh pieces. The resulting capacity is about 3.4 times the current level. Its existing Tiruppur facility carries out quilting, seam sealing, bonding and fusing in-house for technical garments.
The expansion follows FY26 utilisation of about 88% at the existing plant. Management estimated H1 FY27 utilisation at about 80%, lower than FY26, partly because orders worth a little more than Rs 6 crore were ready but awaited mandatory Swiss government inspection and final approvals. Those shipments were expected to move from H1 to H2.
The additional capacity will cover Qualiance's six stated product categories: military and defence apparel, technical outerwear, corporate and institutional uniforms, workwear and personal protective equipment, activewear and performance apparel, and sun-protective garments. Management said technical production requires specialised fabrics, material handling, machinery and quality control.
How will Qualiance fund and ramp the expansion?
Qualiance's capex target is about Rs 40 crore, with IPO proceeds designated for the project. Management said about Rs 24 crore to Rs 25 crore would be used for construction, while the balance would fund machinery, including solar systems. It said all funds raised in the IPO would be used for capex.
Management expects the new plant to operate at about 30% to 35% utilisation in its first year, about 60% in its second year and about 90% in its third year. It said the first year would have only three quarters of operations. These are management expectations rather than reported results.
Qualiance said it would add production in line with customer commitments rather than fill capacity immediately. Management cited the technical nature of garment production and the need to build customer relationships carefully. It also said it would ideally limit any individual customer's use to about 25% of capacity to mitigate concentration risk.

What demand does Qualiance expect for the new capacity?
Qualiance expects domestic customers eventually to account for about 25% of the new plant's business, with international customers representing the remainder. Management linked that estimate to the onboarding of large domestic customers. It separately expects the domestic market to make up about 14% to 15% of FY27 business volume.
That FY27 domestic-volume expectation compares with domestic business representing 1% of revenue in FY26. Qualiance has begun manufacturing technical outerwear for an unnamed leading Indian premium outdoor and performance brand. Management said domestic sales avoid two to three months of shipping time, allowing inventory to convert to sales and cash more quickly.
The company does not expect to add geographies in H2 FY27 beyond Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom and India. Its H1 FY27 revenue was Rs 30.97 crore, compared with Rs 38.46 crore in H1 FY26. Management attributed the decline mainly to delayed Swiss shipments and said US customers were awaiting tariff clarity.
How does the expansion fit Qualiance's financial position?
Qualiance reported about Rs 8.9 crore of cash flow from operations in the six months ended September 30, 2026, more than management said it generated in all of FY26. Debt to equity stood at 0.25 times at the time of the November 2026 call. Management did not describe a separate debt-funding plan for the new facility.
Profit after tax declined to Rs 3.744 crore in H1 FY27 from Rs 5.25 crore a year earlier. Management said H1 FY26 included a one-time, non-cash deferred-tax credit of about Rs 1.52 crore and characterised underlying profit as broadly stable despite lower revenue. EBITDA, or earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, was Rs 5.26 crore, with margin falling to 17% from 19.5% as utilisation declined.
For FY27, management reiterated revenue guidance in line with FY26 and said it anticipated about Rs 76 crore to Rs 77 crore of revenue. It cited H1 spillover shipments, existing customer orders and larger domestic orders. Management also retained its guidance for full-year EBITDA margin in line with FY26.
Conclusion
Qualiance's expansion plan combines a defined Rs 40 crore IPO-funded outlay with an annual capacity addition that exceeds the current 4.5 lakh-piece base by 10.8 lakh garments. The plan is being pursued while the existing business manages delayed Swiss shipments, lower H1 FY27 utilisation of about 80% and a shift toward domestic customers from 1% of FY26 revenue.
The next disclosed milestones are building completion by February 2027, machinery installation in March 2027, subsequent trials and certifications, and the Q1 FY28 commercial-operation target. Management's utilisation targets of 30% to 35% in the first year, about 60% in the second and about 90% in the third, along with the planned 25% domestic share of new-plant business, are the key measures to watch.
