How did TEIPL end the PB North West penalty?
TEIPL ended the 15% penalty by commissioning and operationalising both streams of the Coal Handling Plant, or CHP, at PB North West, with the avoidance effective from 8 September 2026. The presentation identifies the CHP commissioning as the reason the penalty was avoided, rather than as a planned or partly completed activity.
The CHP milestone was reported alongside the completed rehabilitation and resettlement of three major villages, Sirma, Basaria and Nawadih. PB North West also recorded Q2FY27 coal production of 5.62 lakh tonnes and overburden, or OB, removal of 20.09 lakh cubic metres, showing reported mine activity during the quarter in which the site update was provided.
What did TEIPL produce and dispatch at PB North West in Q2FY27?
TEIPL produced 5.62 lakh tonnes of coal, crushed 6.69 lakh tonnes and dispatched 6.52 lakh tonnes at PB North West in Q2FY27. The operation also removed 20.09 lakh cubic metres of OB, which is reported separately from coal volumes in the presentation.
Crushing exceeded dispatch by 0.17 lakh tonnes in Q2FY27, while dispatch exceeded production by 0.90 lakh tonnes. These are separate stages of the coal-handling chain, and the presentation reports each metric independently rather than giving a single operating-volume measure.
PB North West formed part of TEIPL's Indian coal operations, which reported 18.82 million cubic metres including OB in Q2FY27, compared with 16.87 million cubic metres in Q2FY26. At the separately reported PB West operation, Q2FY27 coal production was 34.4 lakh tonnes, coal crushing was 37.2 lakh tonnes and coal dispatch was 38.1 lakh tonnes, all above PB North West's reported volumes.
How did TEIPL's H1FY27 financial performance change?
TEIPL reported H1FY27 revenue from operations of Rs 4,608.2 crore and EBITDA of Rs 883.6 crore, compared with Rs 3,229.5 crore and Rs 478.8 crore in H1FY26. Revenue increased 43% year on year, while EBITDA increased 85%, and the EBITDA margin rose to 19.18% from 14.82%.
TEIPL's H1FY27 cash profit after tax increased 116% year on year to Rs 558.2 crore, while its cash profit margin rose to 12.11% from 8.01%. As of 30 September 2026, TEIPL reported net debt including redeemable preference shares of Rs 4,841.6 crore and net worth of Rs 2,735.3 crore.

The presentation also leaves future PB North West operating volumes unresolved after both CHP streams became operational from 8 September 2026.
