What drove Titan’s return on average equity to 42%?
Titan’s reported return on average equity, or RoE, rose by 5 percentage points to 42% at September 2026 as trailing-12-month PAT increased by Rs 1,401 crore over six months. PAT was Rs 4,129 crore at September 2025, rose to Rs 5,073 crore at March 2026 and reached Rs 6,474 crore at September 2026. Both the 42% RoE and the Rs 6,474 crore trailing-12-month PAT were the highest figures in the presentation’s trend from March 2021.
Average equity increased alongside profit, rising from Rs 11,270 crore at September 2025 to Rs 13,664 crore at March 2026 and Rs 15,251 crore at September 2026. RoE was 37% at both September 2025 and March 2026 before rising to 42% in September 2026. The latest increase in the reported return rate therefore followed two half-year periods in which average equity expanded while the return rate was unchanged.
How did Titan’s recent profit growth compare with earlier years?
Titan’s profit trend increased after FY25, when PAT was Rs 3,337 crore and PAT margin was 5.8%. In FY26, PAT increased to Rs 5,074 crore and the margin rose to 6.7%, while total income grew 33% to Rs 76,078 crore. By H1FY27, PAT was Rs 4,170 crore, equivalent to about 82% of FY26 PAT, while the half-year PAT margin was 9.9%.

Watches EBIT rose 35% to Rs 712 crore on 25% income growth to Rs 3,349 crore, lifting its margin to 21.3% from 19.7%. TEAL EBIT rose 91% to Rs 322 crore on income of Rs 1,075 crore and a 30.0% margin, while international business EBIT declined 90% to Rs 3 crore despite income increasing 114% to Rs 2,545 crore.
What does Titan’s equity trend indicate about the return calculation?
Titan’s reported total equity increased from Rs 11,624 crore in FY25 to Rs 15,703 crore in FY26, while annual RoE increased from 32% to 37%. PAT increased from Rs 3,337 crore in FY25 to Rs 5,074 crore in FY26 over the same period. The annual figures show that the improvement in reported return accompanied higher profit and a larger equity base.
The presentation identifies the acquisition of CaratLane’s non-controlling interest in H2FY24 as an earlier equity-related event affecting comparability. Titan says the acquisition reduced retained earnings and was reflected in lower average equity. Average equity was Rs 11,365 crore at September 2023, declined to Rs 10,649 crore at March 2024, and then rose from Rs 10,509 crore at March 2025 to Rs 15,251 crore at September 2026.
Conclusion
Titan’s 42% RoE at September 2026 reflects a trailing-12-month PAT base of Rs 6,474 crore, compared with Rs 5,073 crore six months earlier, despite average equity increasing to Rs 15,251 crore. H1FY27 operating figures show higher EBIT from domestic jewellery, watches and TEAL, while PAT margin reached 9.9% for the half year compared with 6.7% in FY26.
The next reported periods will indicate whether the higher return rate continues as equity expands. Titan disclosed that Q2FY27 total income and EBIT included Rs 671 crore of liability related to the Damas acquisition, while international business delivered EBIT of Rs 3 crore on income of Rs 2,545 crore in H1FY27; both items remain relevant to future profitability and mix.
