What has Aster DM Quality Care invested in medical technology?
Aster DM Quality Care invested more than Rs 600 crore in medical technology during the 18 months ended September 30, 2026. The spending covered equipment for robotic surgery, cancer diagnosis and radiotherapy, cardiac interventions, neurology, orthopaedics and imaging, rather than a single hospital construction project.
The technology programme formed part of more than Rs 1,200 crore of capital expenditure in the same 18-month period. That wider capital expenditure included project capital expenditure, growth capital expenditure and refresh spending, while the medical-technology figure specifically reflects equipment intended to expand clinical capability.
As of September 30, 2026, the installed base included 44 catheterisation laboratories, or cath labs, 13 linear accelerators, or LINACs, 32 magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, machines, 33 robots and seven digital positron emission tomography-computed tomography, or PET-CT, systems. The mix gives Aster DM Quality Care equipment across diagnostic, surgical and treatment pathways.
What equipment did Aster DM Quality Care add in Q2 FY27?
Aster DM Quality Care added one LINAC, one digital PET-CT system, three robots, two cath labs and one MRI machine in Q2 FY27, the second quarter of financial year 2027. The additions show that the company expanded several treatment and diagnostic modalities in the quarter rather than concentrating spending in one specialty.
The company placed one robot at CARE Raipur and two robots across CARE Banjara and MIMS Kannur. It added cath labs at CARE Bhubaneswar and MIMS Areekode, while Aster CMI received an MRI machine; the digital PET-CT and LINAC additions expanded cancer-related diagnostic and radiotherapy capacity.
Aster DM Quality Care lists the Da Vinci Xi robot for keyhole surgery, the SSI Mantra surgical robot, the ROSA brain robot and joint-replacement robots among its platforms. It also identifies intraoperative electron radiation therapy, which delivers radiation during tumour surgery, and the Archimedes system, which provides three-dimensional navigation for biopsies of hard-to-reach lung nodules.
The equipment additions came as total patient volume rose 12% year on year to 2.18 million in Q2 FY27, while operational beds increased 4% to 10,611. Occupancy rose to 68% from 65%, whereas average length of stay remained unchanged at 3.3 days, according to the presentation.

How has complex-care activity changed at Aster DM Quality Care?
Aster DM Quality Care reported 16% year-on-year growth in CONGO revenue in Q2 FY27, with higher activity in several tertiary-care procedures. Robotic surgeries rose 39%, kidney transplants increased 31% and joint replacements grew 29% during the quarter.
CONGO accounted for 53% of overall revenue in Q2 FY27. By comparison, the specialty revenue mix showed orthopaedics rising to 9% from 8% a year earlier, while cardiac sciences fell to 15% from 16%; oncology and neurosciences each remained unchanged at 9% and 10%, respectively.
On a trailing-12-month and pro-forma basis, Aster DM Quality Care reported more than 97,310 cardiac procedures, 16,845 neuro procedures, 5,130 robotic surgeries, 9,865 joint procedures and 975 transplants. These figures cover renal, liver and heart transplants and describe clinical activity across the network rather than only the new technology installed in Q2 FY27.
The presentation also reported two India-first procedures: NanoKnife surgery using irreversible electroporation in urology at Aster Medcity, Kochi, and a two-way ABO-incompatible paediatric kidney exchange at Aster CMI, Bengaluru. In Kerala, Aster MIMS Calicut performed the state’s first uniportal robotic-assisted thoracoscopic surgery, while Aster Medcity performed the state’s first liquid-nitrogen cryoablation for breast fibroadenomas.
How are new centres extending Aster DM Quality Care’s specialist services?
Aster DM Quality Care launched three selected centres of excellence within existing hospitals in Q2 FY27. The launches were the ARISE Robotic Spine Institute at Aster CMI, Bengaluru in July 2026, the CARE Cancer Institute at Ramkrishna CARE, Raipur in August 2026, and the Fetal Medicine Centre of Excellence at Aster Medcity, Kochi in September 2026.
ARISE provides robotic spine care alongside research and surgeon training for complex spine conditions. The CARE Cancer Institute was commissioned as a 32-bed facility with PET-CT, radiotherapy and bone marrow transplant services, while the fetal medicine centre provides advanced fetal care with access support through the Jananeeyam initiative.
These centres support management’s stated strategy of broadening specialist services at existing hospitals and coordinating care within the network. Aster DM Quality Care had 10,840 beds across 38 hospitals in 27 cities as of September 30, 2026, with 76% of bed capacity in non-metro locations and 24% in metro locations.
The operational backdrop included 19% year-on-year revenue growth to Rs 2,829 crore in Q2 FY27 and 25% growth in operating earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or operating EBITDA, to Rs 678 crore. Aster DM Quality Care attributed the quarterly revenue performance to patient-volume growth and clinical complexity, while operating EBITDA reflected topline growth, leverage and cost management.
Conclusion
Aster DM Quality Care’s more than Rs 600 crore medical-technology investment has expanded its installed base of robots, cancer-treatment equipment, imaging systems and cath labs across a 38-hospital network. The Q2 FY27 additions, specialist-centre launches and reported clinical procedures align with increased complex-care activity, including 39% growth in robotic surgeries and 16% growth in CONGO revenue.
The next operating evidence will be utilisation of the equipment and centres launched between July and September 2026. Management disclosed that the 32-bed CARE Cancer Institute in Raipur was commissioned in Q2 FY27, while emerging hospitals including Kasaragod and Nagercoil recorded 62% year-on-year revenue growth, creating a basis for tracking the contribution of specialist capacity as those units ramp up.
