What drove Emerald Finance's Q2 FY27 profit growth?
Emerald Finance's Q2 FY27 profit growth was led by higher interest income and earned wage access, or EWA, processing fees, which offset a sequential reduction in distribution income. Gross total income increased 45.8% year on year from Rs 6.91 crore in Q2 FY26 to Rs 10.07 crore in Q2 FY27, while profit after tax, or PAT, increased from Rs 3.60 crore to Rs 5.31 crore.
Interest income was Rs 4.94 crore in Q2 FY27, up 19.3% from Rs 4.14 crore in Q1 FY27 and 38.3% from Rs 3.57 crore a year earlier. EWA processing-fee income increased 16.7% quarter on quarter to Rs 1.19 crore and 120.4% year on year from Rs 54 lakh in Q2 FY26.
Distribution income was Rs 3.94 crore in Q2 FY27, down 7.7% from Rs 4.27 crore in Q1 FY27 but up 41.7% from Rs 2.78 crore in Q2 FY26. The quarter-on-quarter gains in interest income and EWA fees were Rs 80 lakh and Rs 17 lakh respectively, compared with a Rs 33 lakh decline in distribution income.
The Q2 FY27 result also extended the PAT trend shown over eight quarters. PAT rose from Rs 2.48 crore in Q3 FY25 to Rs 5.31 crore in Q2 FY27, a 2.14 times increase, while revenue increased 1.76 times from Rs 5.72 crore to Rs 10.07 crore over the same period.
How did Emerald Finance's income mix change in Q2 FY27?
Emerald Finance's income mix shifted further toward interest and EWA fees in Q2 FY27 as both lines rose from Q1 FY27 while distribution income declined. Interest income and EWA processing-fee income together totalled Rs 6.13 crore, compared with Rs 5.16 crore in the preceding quarter.
The year-on-year comparison shows growth in each of the three reported income lines. Interest income increased from Rs 3.57 crore in Q2 FY26 to Rs 4.94 crore in Q2 FY27, EWA processing fees rose from Rs 54 lakh to Rs 1.19 crore, and distribution income increased from Rs 2.78 crore to Rs 3.94 crore.
Over the eight-quarter history disclosed in the presentation, interest income increased from Rs 2.65 crore in Dec-24 to Rs 4.94 crore in Sep-26. EWA processing-fee income rose from Rs 11 lakh in Dec-24 to Rs 1.19 crore in Sep-26, while distribution income moved from Rs 2.96 crore to Rs 3.94 crore after reaching Rs 4.97 crore in Mar-26.
The different quarterly movements matter because distribution income was the largest reported income line in Q1 FY27 at Rs 4.27 crore, whereas interest income was the largest line in Q2 FY27 at Rs 4.94 crore. EWA fees remained smaller than the other two lines at Rs 1.19 crore, but recorded the highest year-on-year percentage increase among the reported income categories.

What do Emerald Finance's return and impairment figures show?
Emerald Finance reported higher return ratios for H1 FY27 than for FY26, alongside a higher impairment charge in Q2 FY27 than in Q1 FY27. Return on equity, or ROE, was 19.6% in H1 FY27 versus 16.4% in FY26, while return on capital, or ROC, was 24.66% versus 21.7%.
Impairment of assets was Rs 28.8 lakh in Q2 FY27, compared with Rs 21.2 lakh in Q1 FY27. The quarterly highlights table does not state an impairment figure for Q4 FY26, so the presentation does not provide a comparable three-quarter trend for this item.
Emerald Finance reported assets under management, or AUM, of Rs 131 crore in Sep-26, following Rs 125.15 crore in June-26 and Rs 111.06 crore in Mar-26. The company separately stated cumulative disbursements of more than Rs 131 crore, an average lending rate of 18%, and an average ticket size of Rs 40 lakh for its micro, small and medium enterprise, or MSME, lending business.
Management attributed the Rs 131 crore loan book cited in its Q2 FY27 commentary to disciplined underwriting. The presentation describes the MSME business as providing unsecured working-capital solutions across India and lists credit appraisal and risk management as elements of its lending approach.
What operating scale supports Emerald Finance's EWA strategy?
Emerald Finance reported Rs 30.50 crore of monthly EWA and cross-sell activity, 270 corporate partnerships and 5,540 monthly active users. Management described EWA as its entry point and distribution as its advantage, while saying EWA is scaling across corporates.
Emerald Finance launched Emerald Ekam as a platform combining salary access, loans, insurance and investments. Its current listed products include digital gold, EWA, personal loans, gold loans, small-ticket mutual funds, home loans, health insurance and business loans.
The platform's listed upcoming products are general insurance, unified bill payments, motor insurance and life insurance. Emerald Ekam is presented as offering earned-salary access and HR visibility, adding product mechanisms beyond the EWA service that generated Rs 1.19 crore of processing-fee income in Q2 FY27.
Funding came from three banks and 18 non-banking financial companies, or NBFCs, according to the presentation. Total borrowings were Rs 30.73 crore, comprising Rs 14.37 crore from banks, or 46.76%, and Rs 16.36 crore from NBFCs, or 53.24%; the disclosed CRISIL rating was BBB- with a stable outlook.
Conclusion
Emerald Finance's Q2 FY27 figures show that PAT growth of 47.3% year on year accompanied a 45.8% increase in gross total income. Interest income reached Rs 4.94 crore and EWA fees reached Rs 1.19 crore, while distribution income remained above the prior-year quarter but declined from Rs 4.27 crore in Q1 FY27 to Rs 3.94 crore.
The next reported measures to watch are whether interest and EWA income continue their quarterly increases, whether distribution income changes from its Q2 FY27 direction, and how the Rs 131 crore AUM develops. Management's disclosed plan is to build Emerald Ekam around salary access, borrowing, insurance and investments, with further insurance products and unified bill payments listed as upcoming offerings.
