Emerald Finance Limited aims to source 120 earned wage access, or EWA, corporate clients in FY27 after sourcing 54 in the first half, but management says employee activation rather than employer sign-ups is the principal operating constraint. Roughly 14% of its registered employee base was using EWA monthly, according to management.

Can Emerald Finance reach 120 EWA corporate clients in FY27?
Emerald Finance has set a FY27 target of sourcing 120 corporate clients for its EWA programme, and management said it had sourced 54 by the first half. Talin Aggarwal said the company was almost 50% of the way to the original annual goal, while adding that progress would be assessed by employee base and engagement as well as corporate count.
Management said Emerald Finance onboarded 24 corporates in Q2 FY27, while the H1 FY27 sourcing figure was 54 clients. The 54-client figure is the one management used when reaffirming the annual target, leaving 66 clients to be sourced in the second half for the company to reach 120.
Management did not provide a numerical target beyond FY27. It said it wanted to maintain the onboarding pace while expanding the overall network, but also shifted the focus towards larger corporates in India. Sanjay Aggarwal did not disclose a definition of a large corporate, an average employee count per new client, or a target for the mix of larger employers.
Why is employee activation more important than corporate onboarding?
Employee activation is the more immediate constraint because management said only roughly 14% of the EWA employee base transacts monthly. In an earlier answer during the November 5, 2026 call, Talin Aggarwal put the employee base at roughly 40,000 to 42,000, with 5,500 monthly transacting users, equivalent to an engagement ratio of about 12% to 13%.
Management said EWA retention is 90% once a user has made a first transaction and remains employed by the corporate. Its stated challenge is therefore inducing that first transaction, rather than retaining a user after usage begins. Talin Aggarwal also said EWA is not needed by every employee, particularly when salary arrives on time, limiting potential adoption of that single product.
Emerald Finance is seeking to broaden engagement through Emerald Ekam, the platform to which it is migrating existing EWA corporate clients. Management said it had 270 corporates being progressively migrated to the platform, where employees can access EWA alongside loans, investments, mutual funds, insurance and digital gold. The mechanism is intended to create cross-selling opportunities for employees who do not use wage access.

How does Emerald Ekam support Emerald Finance’s larger-employer plan?
Emerald Ekam supports the larger-employer strategy by giving employees access to products beyond EWA on one platform. Management said Emerald Finance had already soft-launched the platform and was migrating its existing EWA corporate relationships. It also said it had tied up with SafeGold, enabling digital-gold purchases through the platform; silver was not available at the November 5, 2026 call.
The product expansion matters because EWA represented 11.8% of quarterly revenue, compared with 49.0% from interest income and 39.2% from distribution. Management said both interest income and EWA income had increased, whereas distribution income had seen a slight decline over the preceding two quarters. A larger employee population on Emerald Ekam could support usage across several products, although management gave no revenue target for cross-selling.
The platform also fits management’s stated strategy of using relationships across its businesses. Management said corporate clients sourced through distribution may receive micro, small and medium enterprise, or MSME, loans and EWA services, while directly onboarded EWA clients may be offered MSME loans or distribution products. It described this as measured expansion, with emphasis on collections and processes rather than rapid disbursement growth.
What financial growth underpins Emerald Finance’s EWA expansion plan?
Emerald Finance reported Q2 FY27 consolidated total income of Rs 10.07 crore, up 45.81% year on year, and profit after tax of Rs 5.30 crore, up 47.14%. For H1 FY27, consolidated total income reached Rs 19.51 crore, a 42.94% year-on-year increase, while profit after tax was Rs 10.18 crore, up 49.80%.
Management expects the second half to be stronger because of festive-season EWA demand and activity towards the March quarter. It said EWA disbursements were averaging about Rs 14 crore monthly at the time of the call, compared with the Rs 12.5 crore monthly run rate cited for Q1 FY27. Management expects quarter-on-quarter EWA growth of at least 15% to 20%, which is its outlook rather than reported guidance.
In response to an investor citing a 54.75% year-on-year rise in Q2 FY27 earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, management attributed the improvement to operating leverage. It said consolidated salary expense had not increased and other expenditure had declined, while technology reduced the need to add staff as business grew. Management also said artificial intelligence had been deployed in several departments.
Conclusion
The FY27 goal of 120 EWA corporate clients provides a measurable acquisition benchmark for Emerald Finance’s move towards larger employers. With 54 clients sourced in H1 FY27, the company had completed 45% of the stated target, while the reported 12% to 14% monthly EWA engagement rate explains management’s focus on first-time employee usage and cross-selling through Emerald Ekam.
The next measures to watch are the remaining 66 corporate clients needed to meet the FY27 target, the pace of Emerald Ekam migration across the 270 corporates management cited, and whether monthly EWA disbursements rise from about Rs 14 crore. Management also expects festive demand and the March quarter to support a stronger second half, but has not given a quantified corporate-client target for the following two to three years.
