How many beds is Rainbow building?
Rainbow is building 1,050 beds at various stages of construction, with the 325-bed Sector 44 Gurugram facility as the largest individually disclosed project. Management said its expansion approach focuses on high-quality hospitals with separate spaces for paediatric specialties and obstetrics.
The disclosed construction projects include a 120-bed greenfield development on an adjacent plot in Indore, a 100-bed brownfield hospital in Malad, Mumbai, and a 130-bed greenfield hospital in Coimbatore. The pipeline also includes a 125-bed Sector 56 facility and the 325-bed Sector 44 hub in Gurugram, plus a 100-bed spoke hospital in Seegehalli, Bengaluru, and a 150-bed greenfield hospital in Pune.
Rainbow also received a 2-acre land parcel from the Andhra Pradesh government for a paediatric specialty hospital in Amaravati. Management plans to build that hospital in two phases, beginning with 150 beds, but did not disclose a construction or commissioning date.
When will Rainbow open its new hospitals?
Rainbow expects its Indore hospital to commence clinical operations in Q3, while the 120-bed adjacent greenfield plot is expected to break ground on Diwali. Management did not state the bed capacity or financial-year designation for the Indore hospital expected to begin operations in Q3.
The next specific target is the 100-bed Malad hospital, which Rainbow is fast-tracking for clinical operations in Q1 FY28. Coimbatore’s 130-bed hospital and Gurugram’s 125-bed Sector 56 facility are both expected to be ready in Q3 FY28; internal works at Coimbatore are expected to begin in April 2027, while the Sector 56 shell was nearing completion on the November 2, 2026 call.
Rainbow’s 325-bed Sector 44 Gurugram hub is targeted for Q1 FY29, later than the FY28 projects. The 100-bed Seegehalli hospital and 150-bed Pune project were in early construction and are expected to be ready in the second half of FY29, extending the published timetable beyond two financial years.
How does Rainbow’s pipeline compare with its current network?
Rainbow said it is progressing towards more than 5,000 beds from a current base of about 2,600 beds. The 1,050 beds under construction are therefore a substantial component of that stated scale-up, although management did not give a date for reaching more than 5,000 beds.
During Q2 FY27, Rainbow commenced operations at a newly acquired 70-bed hospital in Nellore and a newly built 50-bed hospital in Guntur. Those 120 operating beds were described separately from the projects under construction and expanded Rainbow’s Andhra Pradesh network from Visakhapatnam to Chennai.
Rainbow said its newer Rajahmundry hospital in Andhra Pradesh and Mahadevapura hospital in Bengaluru had achieved operational breakeven. Its HRBR and Electronic City hospitals in Bengaluru were nearing that point, contrasting with the Pune and Seegehalli projects, which were still at an early construction stage and not expected to be ready until H2 FY29.

How is Rainbow funding and managing expansion?
Rainbow reported cash equivalents, fixed deposits and mutual fund investments of Rs 542.8 crore as of September 30, 2026. It incurred capital expenditure of Rs 81.9 crore during Q2 FY27 for hospital-network development and upgrades to existing facilities, while management said the balance-sheet resources provide flexibility for expansion.
Rainbow’s operating revenue was Rs 548 crore in Q2 FY27, up 23.2% year on year, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, rose 14.2% to Rs 170 crore. EBITDA margin was 31% in Q2 FY27, compared with 29.9% in H1 FY27; patient consultations increased 19%, deliveries 20%, and inpatient discharges 15% from the corresponding quarter a year earlier.
Responding to an analyst’s question, Dr. Ramesh Kancharla said newly added beds take time to reach breakeven, but mature and emerging hospitals are expected to support group profitability. He said management had indicated that new capacity additions could affect margin by about 0.5 percentage point in a quarter and did not expect a materially larger effect.
How is Rainbow preparing its operating model for new cities?
Rainbow has initiated the One Rainbow Model, a clinical-governance framework intended to standardise care protocols and support multidisciplinary teams across the group. Management linked the programme to its pan-India expansion and said it is intended to support consistent care as facilities are added in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Rainbow’s new hospital information system, or HIS, had gone live at its Banjara Hills hub hospital in Hyderabad, where the new electronic medical record was used for 100% of outpatient and inpatient activity. Management expects the HIS rollout to be completed within four months and said the company has also upgraded to SAP S/4HANA as it expands from about 2,600 beds towards more than 5,000.
Management said it had created hyperlocal and zonal structures to increase execution speed. Its stated priorities include raising patient volumes, improving conversion, strengthening capacity utilisation and accelerating the operating maturity of newer hospitals, including Nellore and Guntur, which commenced operations during Q2 FY27.
Conclusion
Rainbow has set out a phased national capacity plan with 1,050 beds under construction and a clear sequence of commissioning targets. The 325-bed Sector 44 Gurugram hub is the largest disclosed project and has the latest specific target of Q1 FY29, while Malad, Coimbatore and Sector 56 Gurugram are expected to come earlier.
The next milestones to watch are the Q1 FY28 target for Malad and the Q3 FY28 targets for Coimbatore and Sector 56 Gurugram. Management also expects to complete its HIS rollout within four months of the Q2 FY27 call, while the construction progress and commissioning schedules for the FY29 projects remain unresolved execution items.
