When will SJS's Pune automotive display plant begin operations?
SJS says its Pune automotive display plant is scheduled to be operational by Q2FY28. SJS Display Electronics Pvt. Ltd. is setting up the facility, which management described on November 4, 2026 as SJS's first plant in the automotive display electronics segment. The timeline follows the quarter ended September 30, 2026, when SJS reported its highest quarterly operating revenue of Rs 282.73 crore.
SJS has not disclosed the project's capital expenditure, production capacity, customer programmes or revenue target. The plant takes SJS into a category beyond its stated product range of decals, 3D lux badges, overlays, aluminium badges, chrome-plated parts and optical plastics. At the announcement date, SJS had more than 17,500 stock-keeping units and supplied more than 220 customers in over 22 countries.
How does BOE Varitronix support SJS's display plan?
SJS says its technology partnership with BOE Varitronix is strengthening capabilities in optical bonding and assembly of automotive displays in India. Those are the two display-related processes specified in the announcement, while the release does not identify any equipment, component-supply, design, manufacturing-process or customer-access terms under the partnership.
The display plan adds to SJS's existing in-house activities in design, tooling, printing, moulding and electroplating. In Q2FY27, SDPL's new chrome-plating facility commenced commercial production, while the Bangalore capacity expansion was completed and is scheduled to begin commercial production in Q3FY27. The Bangalore project therefore has an earlier stated production milestone than the Pune display facility.
What financial capacity supports SJS's expansion?
SJS said Q2FY27 capital expenditure was funded entirely through internal cash generation and reported a net cash position of Rs 331.87 crore. The disclosure covers a quarter in which SJS was progressing the Pune display project, completing its Bangalore expansion and bringing SDPL's chrome-plating facility into commercial production, but it does not allocate cash to individual projects.
SJS reported faster growth in earnings than revenue in Q2FY27. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, or EBITDA, rose 23.1%, while reported profit after tax, or PAT, increased 34.8%, compared with operating revenue growth of 16.9% from Q2FY26.
EBITDA margin increased to 31.0% in Q2FY27 from 29.6% in Q2FY26, while reported PAT margin rose to 20.6% from 17.9%. Normalised PAT was also Rs 58.33 crore in Q2FY27. SJS said Q1FY27 and H1FY27 PAT included a Rs 24.17 crore post-tax exceptional gain from selling an old Bangalore facility that had not been in use since 2019.

Passenger-vehicle revenue rose 33.4%, domestic business grew 16.3%, and export revenue increased 23.1% to Rs 28.25 crore. Automotive-business growth was 26.6%, ahead of the cited 19.7% increase in industry production volumes, while passenger-vehicle revenue rose 39.0% and exports grew 45.8%. Management cited passenger vehicles, exports and demand for technology-led vehicle interiors when discussing the new display capability.
SJS acquired the remaining 9.9% stake in WPI during Q2FY27, making WPI a wholly owned subsidiary. Management also said WPI's three Ranjangaon facilities would be consolidated into a single integrated plant. Separately, SJS announced export orders from Stellantis and Whirlpool in North America during Q2FY27 and from TADME, Toyota Middle East, in October 2026.
Conclusion
SJS is extending its product portfolio into automotive display electronics through a Pune facility planned for Q2FY28 and a BOE Varitronix partnership centred on optical bonding and assembly. The initiative follows Q2FY27 operating revenue of Rs 282.73 crore, 21.7% automotive-business growth and a Rs 331.87 crore net cash position.
The next stated operating milestone is commercial production at the completed Bangalore expansion in Q3FY27, followed by the planned Pune plant start by Q2FY28. SJS has not disclosed the display facility's investment, capacity, customer nominations or expected revenue contribution, while management has recalibrated FY27 revenue-growth outlook to 1.2-1.5 times passenger-vehicle and motorcycle industry growth and raised EBITDA-margin guidance to 29-30% from 27-28%.
