ADANIPOWER
Speaking at the Advantage Vidarbha 2026 Business Conclave in Nagpur, Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports and Adani Defence and Aerospace, outlined a comprehensive investment plan aimed at transforming the Vidarbha region into a pivotal hub for energy, logistics, and aviation. He emphasized that the Adani Group's commitment to the region is "generational, not transactional," signaling a long-term partnership focused on sustainable development, job creation, and community upliftment. Adani projected that Vidarbha is poised to become a central pillar in India's economic growth story for decades to come, supported by strategic private investments and robust infrastructure development.
The cornerstone of Adani Group's strategy in Vidarbha is strengthening Maharashtra's energy security. The group operates the state's largest and most advanced 3,300 MW supercritical thermal power plant at Tiroda. This facility, built to high global standards of efficiency, is a critical component of the state's power infrastructure. In 2025, the group revived the 600 MW Butibori power plant, demonstrating its commitment to turning around stressed assets. Through a 25-year power purchase agreement, these thermal plants, combined with solar generation, ensure a dependable supply of 6,600 MW of electricity for Maharashtra. This stable power supply is essential for supporting the state's industrial expansion, urban centers, and growing digital economy.
One of the most transformative projects announced is a Rs 7,000 crore integrated coal gasification and downstream derivatives complex at Linga. This ambitious venture is expected to create approximately 30,000 direct jobs, significantly boosting local employment. The project aims to build advanced chemical manufacturing capabilities in India, reducing import dependency for critical industries. By focusing on clean energy technologies, the complex is set to place Nagpur on the global map for sustainable industrial development and contribute to India's goal of national self-reliance, or 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'.
In the aviation sector, Adani Group is positioning Nagpur as an international center for aircraft Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO). The group has expanded its 30-acre MRO complex at Mihan following the acquisition of Indamer Technics. This state-of-the-art facility features 15 aircraft bays and holds certifications from both the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation). Its integration with the AirWorks global network further enhances its capabilities, making it an attractive destination for airlines worldwide and strengthening India's domestic MRO ecosystem.
Recognizing Vidarbha's strategic location at the geographical heart of India, the Adani Group is also bolstering its role as a major logistics gateway. The company operates a 75-acre Inland Container Depot (ICD) at Borkhedi, which facilitates efficient freight movement. Furthermore, the acquisition of 24 border check posts across Maharashtra is streamlining transport operations, reducing freight costs, and improving global competitiveness for thousands of businesses. These initiatives are crucial for creating an integrated industrial and logistics ecosystem that can drive economic activity throughout the region.
Throughout his address, Jeet Adani highlighted that these large-scale industrial projects are rooted in sustainability and community-first principles. The underground mine at Gondkari, for instance, is presented as a model of responsible mining with minimal land use, zero displacement, and significant environmental initiatives like rainwater harvesting and a 5,000-tree plantation. Similarly, the Tiroda power plant follows a zero water discharge policy and repurposes fly ash for use in cement and brick manufacturing. These efforts align with the group's broader pledge to plant 100 million trees by 2030 and demonstrate that economic progress and environmental sustainability can be pursued simultaneously.
Jeet Adani credited the proactive policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for creating an investment-friendly climate that has made Vidarbha an attractive destination. He concluded by reiterating that the Adani Group stands ready as a long-term partner to help build an era of opportunity, resilience, and prosperity in the region. With a clear foundation laid by the government and the ambition of its people, Vidarbha is on a clear path to realizing its immense potential.
