How will Mahindra reach doubled auto capacity by F31?
Mahindra plans to double auto capacity over the five years from F26 exit to F31 exit through debottlenecking, new-product capacity, an additional Chakan line and a greenfield plant in Nagpur. Total operational capacity rose from 59,000 units a month at F25 exit to 64,500 units at F26 exit, and reached 68,000 units at F27 H1 exit, which the company marked as completed.
The near-term plan calls for 82,000 units a month at F27 H2 exit, comprising 70,000 units of sport utility vehicle internal-combustion-engine capacity, or SUV ICE capacity, and 12,000 units of battery electric vehicle, or BEV, capacity. This represents an increase of 17,500 monthly units from the 64,500-unit F26 exit base, with 10,000 SUV ICE units and 4,000 BEV units reserved for new launches in F28.
Mahindra also plans to create 10,000 units a month of additional NU_IQ-platform capacity at Chakan, taking operational capacity to 92,000 units a month by F28 exit. The presentation does not identify the model to be made on this capacity, its production start date, or the allocation between domestic and export markets.
Nagpur is the longer-range part of the programme and is announced for F29 and beyond to support new launches. Mahindra expects about 20,000 units a month of operational capacity there by H1 F30 exit, followed by another roughly 20,000 units by H1 F31 exit. The presentation does not disclose Nagpur capital expenditure, utilisation assumptions or a numerical F31 exit-capacity total.
Which products will Mahindra launch by June 2027?
Mahindra lists five major launches by the end of June 2027: four SUVs and one light commercial vehicle, or LCV. The SUV pipeline includes one product on the new NU_IQ platform, one all-new BEV, the already announced Lifestyler and one refresh, while the commercial-vehicle pipeline contains one new LCV.
The company had already disclosed several product actions in 2026, including the Scorpio Lifestyler unveiling in August 2026, the BE 6 SportEq launch on 15 August 2026 and the XUV 3XO ZN launch on 15 October 2026. It also listed the Scorpio-N refresh in August 2026 and Thar OG in September 2026, but the presentation does not explicitly match those actions to the five products due by end-June 2027.
For commercial vehicles, Mahindra said Veero was launched on 7 September 2026. Since the portfolio page still identifies one new LCV launch by June 2027, the disclosed pipeline indicates a further commercial-vehicle product action after Veero. The presentation provides no expected volumes, prices, powertrain details or capacity allocation for the five-launch group.

What financial and market outlook supports Mahindra's plan?
Management expects mid- to high-teen SUV growth for Mahindra in F27 and says the manufacturing-capacity ramp-up is on track to meet its volume-growth plan. For LCVs below 3.5 tonnes, management expects double-digit industry growth in F27, while it describes the tractor-industry outlook as flatish. These are management outlook statements rather than reported sales or market-share forecasts.
Auto consolidated revenue was Rs 37,756 crore in Q2 F27, up 39% from Rs 27,171 crore in Q2 F26. BEV PBIT margin increased to 9.1% from 7.7%, whereas SUV and LCV PBIT margin declined to 9.8% from 11.0%; the presentation does not link these margin movements to individual capacity additions.
Conclusion
Mahindra's disclosed plan combines immediate debottlenecking and product capacity with a longer-term Nagpur expansion. Capacity is targeted to reach 92,000 units a month by F28 exit, while Nagpur is planned to add about 40,000 monthly units by H1 F31. The five launches due by end-June 2027 provide the stated product pipeline for the expanded manufacturing base.
The next disclosed milestones are the 82,000-unit F27 H2 exit-capacity target, the five-launch deadline at end-June 2027 and the 92,000-unit F28 exit objective. Beyond that, the source identifies Nagpur capacity of about 20,000 units a month by H1 F30 exit and a further roughly 20,000 units by H1 F31 exit as the key remaining expansion steps.
